SCHAUMBURG, IL – Bear Bay went the distance and the offense scored 12 runs on 17 hits as the Joliet JackHammers (32-27) routed the Schaumburg Flyers (22-38) 12-1 Monday night at Alexian Field. It was the first victory for Joliet this season against Schaumburg.

The JackHammers blew the game wide open late, scoring six times in the final two frames. Nine hitters came to the plate in the eighth with four runs scoring. Jon Nelson knocked home one with a double to make it 7-1. Freddie Thon, Chris Colton and Kevin Rios each followed with run scoring singles for a 10-1 lead.

That was more than enough for Bay (5-4), who went the distance for the first time this season. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits, striking out six in the process.

The offense built the early lead behind Thon’s two doubles. The first baseman knocked home two in the first and another in the fifth for a 3-1 advantage against Alain Quijano (2-6).

The lead ballooned out in the sixth on a Jonathan Wyatt RBI triple and the first home run by Brad Correll, a two run shot over the wall in left for a 6-1 cushion.

Correll was back at it again in the ninth, collecting his second two run homer of the night. Wyatt singled and Correll sent the first pitch from Joshua Giles well over the wall in left center for the 12-1 final.

Quijano lasted 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with seven walks. The bullpen went the final 4.1 frames, surrendering nine more runs on 12 hits.

The first six JackHammers in the lineup had multi-hit games with Correll knocking in four and scoring four times. Thon collected four runs batted in on three hits.
