Who can attend?
All participants must be at least 18 years old. Prior college or professional experience is recommended.
Do I have to pre-register on the website?
Yes, all participants must pre-register and fill out the player information form.
Where is the Tryout?
The Northern League tryout camp will be held at Stephen Schott Stadium, located on the campus of Santa Clara University (500 El Camino Real/Santa Clara, CA/95053). The Northern League consists of 6 teams: Gary SouthShore RailCats, Joliet JackHammers, Schaumburg Flyers, Kansas City T-Bones, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Winnipeg Goldeyes. We are the oldest independent league in existence (since 1993). We have moved over 600 players into affiliated baseball leagues (20 from the 2007 season).
Directions to the stadium: Stephen Schott Stadium is located on the campus of Santa Clara University at the intersection of El Camino Real and Campbell Avenue.
From Interstate 280:
- From Highway 280, take the I-880/17 connector towards Oakland. From I-880, take the Alameda exit. After making a left turn at the stop light off the exit, follow the Alameda for approximately one mile and the campus will come into view on your left. The Alameda veers right into El Camino Real. Make a right onto Campbell Avenue and Schott Stadium will be on the right.
From Interstate 880:
- From Interstate 880, take the Alameda exit. Make a right onto The Alameda and proceed for about one mile. The campus will come into view on your left. The Alameda veers right into The El Camino Real. Make a right onto Campbell Avenue and Schott Stadium will be on the right.
From Highway 101:
- From Highway 101, take the De La Cruz Boulevard exit. Follow the signs to Santa Clara, veering to the right at the San Jose/Santa Clara split. Make a right turn on Lafayette. From Lafayette, make a right on the El Camino Real. Follow the El Camino for about one half mile and pass the main entrance. The next light will be Campbell Avenue. Make a left and Schott Stadium will be on the right.

Do I need to sign an Injury Waiver?
Yes, at check-in all players must sign an injury waiver in order to participate in the tryout.

Will there be transportation to and from the field?
No transportation will be provided to and from the field. You are responsible for making your own arrangements.
What time should I arrive?
Check-in begins at 8:30 A.M.
How long are the Tryouts?
The first day may go late into the evening with an anticipated finish of approximately 6:00 PM. Day one will focus primarily on fielding, throwing, speed and pitching with some game situations late in the day. Call backs will be posted and a smaller group will return the second day to participate in simulated games. At the conclusion of day two, a draft will be conducted..
Will contracts be offered at the Tryouts?
Yes, after the conclusion of the second day, the managers will draft selected players and contracts will be offered.
How long is the Season?
The 90-game season opens Thursday, May 15th and ends on Sunday, August 31st. Spring training will begin on Thursday, May 1st at each team's city.
Is this the only tryout?
Yes, the league holds one league camp per year. A $25 registration fee will be collected at the camp.
Who will evaluate the players?
Managers and field personnel will be represented to evaluate players. Some professional scouts will also be there.
Can you tryout for more than one position?
No, all players may only tryout in their primary position.
What equipment do I need to bring?
All players are required to wear baseball pants. We will provide baseballs, helmets, and a few bats, but you are responsible for bringing everything you need to play. No aluminum bats may be used – it is suggested that you bring your own wooden bat and a ball to loosen up with. Catchers should bring their own gear.
How much money will you be paid if selected?
Rookie minimum is $800/month. If you are a rookie, you should not expect to receive more than the minimum. In addition, all players are allotted meal money when on the road. Some teams arrange for housing with host families. Veteran players can make as much as $5000/month.
